Shree Deep Jyoti Youth Club

Shree Deep Jyoti Youth Club (SDJYC) is a non-governmental, impartial and non-profit making development organization established in 1996 at Sidin (VDC) ward no. 1 Dabaipani of Panchthar District Nepal. It is registered in District Administration Office (DAO) Panchthar. It is also affiliated to Social Welfare Council (SWC) and NGO Federation of Nepal. The experiences and lessons achieved by the youth mobilization and awareness raising in the initial period of its establishment, SDJYC have motivated to work in the field of natural resource management and environment conservation. Now, working in the rural parts of the Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung districts, SDJYC has extensive field experiences on biodiversity conservation, forest management, pasture land management, livelihood and community development for this area. SDJYC has clearly defined vision, mission, goal, objectives, norms and strategies for its strategic guidance.

To direct the local community to take initiative to improve quality of life from beginning to end equitable assess and sustainable development

Objectives

  • To promote equality between all people through nature resource management and it’s rights awareness raising and the support of disadvantage groups feeling more empowered;
  • To develop locally acceptable technology and to handover the skill and technology to the local community;
  • To enhance/increase economic condition of deprived community by involving them in income generating activities through skill development,
  • To manage natural resource and cultural heritage effectively
  • To develop sustainable eco-tourism in unidentified natural places.
  • To supplement socio-economic condition by providing skill, Knowledge and technology;
    Institutional strengthening of both NGO and community

Approaches/Strategies

  • Empower community through social mobilization;
  • Give priority to the programs for Disadvantage Groups (DAG);
  • Create meaningful participation of inclusive groups in whole Program cycle;
  • Sustainable use of Natural Resource;
  • Coordination and cooperation with stakeholders at all levels of programs;
  • Encourage the Private sectors and Civil society and involve them in development activities to provide quality service;
  • Active and meaningful participation of inclusive groups in whole planning cycle;
  • Create opportunities for deprived inclusive groups to develop their conditions;
  • Support the improvement of the status of deprived women ethnic and disadvantaged people of community;
  • Develop networking with relevant GO’s/NGO’s/Donors/Local authorities as well;

Collaborating Partners and Programs

SDJYC, Panchthar has affiliated to social Welfare Council (SWC), and NGO Federation of Nepal. Since its establishment, SDJYC has been working with the following partner organizations:

  • The Mountain Institute (TMI) – for Biodiversity Conservation and Mountain Development); 2004 -2011.
  • Ethno-Botanical Society of Nepal (ESON)- for Plant biodiversity inventory, identification of hotspots and conservation strategies for threatened species and habitats in Kanchenjuga Singalila Ridge, Eastern Nepal/CEPF since 2007- 2008
  • Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN)- for Conservation of Spiny Babler and threatened forest birds 2008 to 2009
  • Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) WWF for Conservation of Key Plant Species and their Habitats in Kanchenjunga Singalila Complex for Livelihood Improvement  2008-2010
  • Red Panda Network, Nepal (RPN)- for partial role for social mobilization in Red Panda Project since 2007 to 2009
  • Povert Alleviation Fund(PAF)-for Alternative livelihood income generation since 2010-till now
  • Red Panda Network(RPN),Asia Division-for Community Based Red Panda Consevation since 2013-till now
